Privacy policy
How Meridian handles personal data.
Last updated: June 10, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Meridian collects, uses, stores, shares, and deletes information when you use the Meridian Passport app and related services.
Please read this Privacy Policy together with the Terms and conditions. By creating an account and accepting this Privacy Policy during sign-up, you confirm that you understand how Meridian handles your information.
1. Who we are
Meridian is operated by Meridian, a company registered in Denmark under CVR 46426703.
In this Privacy Policy, "Meridian", "we", "us", and "our" mean that company and the Meridian Passport app and related services.
1.1. Privacy contact
For privacy questions, account requests, deletion requests, data rights requests, or safety concerns, contact support@meridianpassport.com.
2. What data we collect
Meridian collects the data needed to create your account, run your passport, show your travel history, support public sharing, send notifications you allow, prevent abuse, and keep the app working.
2.1. Account data
We collect account information such as your email address, user ID, sign-in records, profile name, Passport-ID, public slug, account settings, and timestamps showing when you accepted the Terms and this Privacy Policy during sign-up.
2.2. Profile and passport data
We collect the profile and passport information you choose to add, such as profile text, avatars, residence, highlights, public or private status, social counts, and display settings.
2.3. Travel data
We collect user-selected travel data, including countries, places, map marks, bucketlist marks, Passport Stamps, stamp titles, descriptions, tags, mentions, dates, travel photos, residence, and passport progress.
Meridian does not collect precise GPS location. Travel places are selected by you rather than automatically captured from device location. Map frameworks in the app may reference location-capable device APIs, but Meridian does not use your device location to record where you have been.
2.4. Photos and media
If you upload photos from your photo library, Meridian stores and displays those photos as part of your Passport Stamps, passport avatar, or passport features. Meridian does not use camera or microphone access. You should only upload photos you have the right to use.
2.5. Social data
When your passport is public, Meridian may collect and show social data such as follows, followers, Nice activity, public Passport Stamp activity, community visibility, traveler search results, leaderboards, notifications, and public passport interactions.
2.6. Safety and moderation data
When social features are available for your account, Meridian collects reports about Passport Stamps and passports, report reasons, report details, report statuses, blocked users, moderation decisions, hidden content records, suspended user records, and related timestamps to keep the app safer.
2.7. Feedback and support data
If you send feedback from Settings or contact support, Meridian may collect your message, email address, profile name, user ID, and any information needed to respond.
2.8. Technical data
Meridian may receive basic technical data needed to run the app, such as authentication records, database logs, storage logs, error information, and security records. Meridian does not knowingly use ads, third-party analytics, crash reporting, or tracking tools at this time.
2.9. Notifications data
If you allow push notifications on supported devices, Meridian may store an Expo push token, platform, basic device label, and notification records so it can send and show follow, Nice, and tag notifications. Push notification registration is currently supported on iOS. You can manage notifications through device settings, and Meridian disables the current push token when you sign out where possible.
2.10. Device and local storage
Meridian may store limited data on your device to keep you signed in, improve offline use, and cache avatars or recent passport and community data.
On mobile, this may include sign-in session data and offline passport or community cache data in device storage.
On the web app, this may include authentication session cookies and a theme preference cookie.
3. How data is collected
Most data is collected when you type it, select it, upload it, change a setting, accept the Terms or this Privacy Policy, allow notifications, report content, block a user, or use a feature.
Some technical data is created automatically when the app connects to Meridian's backend or stores limited information on your device.
4. How we use data
Meridian uses data to create and manage accounts, save travel passports, show Passport Stamps and maps, operate public and private modes, provide social features, send notifications you allow, moderate content, respond to support requests, improve reliability, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
4.1. Public passport use
If your passport is public, other users may see public parts of your profile, passport, Passport Stamps, photos, travel activity, social stats, community presence, search results, and leaderboards.
4.2. Private passport use
If your passport is private, Meridian hides social surfaces from your passport and blocks community browsing, traveler search, public passport browsing, leaderboards, follows, followers, Nice activity, and related notifications for your account.
4.3. Switching to private
When you switch from public to private, Meridian permanently deletes your followers, following, Nice activity, and community visibility. If you later switch public again, those social features start at zero.
4.4. Safety settings
Settings, Safety, including Blocked travelers and Reports, is available when your passport is public. If your passport is private, those safety tools are not shown in Settings because social surfaces are disabled for your account.
4.5. Legal bases
Where EU or UK data protection law applies, Meridian relies on contract and legitimate steps needed to provide the service you request, legitimate interests in keeping Meridian secure and reliable, legal obligations, and your consent where the app asks for it, such as photo library access or push notifications.
You can withdraw consent-based permissions through device settings or by changing in-app choices where available.
5. What data is public
Public data may include your public passport, Passport-ID, public slug, profile name, profile details, avatars, public Passport Stamps, stamp titles, descriptions, tags, mentions, photos, country progress, follows, followers, Nice activity, community presence, search results, and leaderboards.
5.1. What data is private
Private data may include your email address, private passport information, private travel data, blocks, reports you submit, notification tokens, account settings, moderation records, feedback, support messages, and legal acceptance timestamps.
6. Sharing data
Meridian does not sell personal data. Meridian only shares data where needed to run the app, provide hosting and storage, comply with law, protect users, process moderation, or respond to valid legal requests.
6.1. Service providers
Meridian currently uses Supabase as its backend, authentication, database, and storage provider, and Expo services for push notification delivery. These providers may process data needed to provide their services to Meridian.
6.2. App stores
Apple and Google may process data related to app downloads, app store accounts, device systems, reviews, payments if added later, and app store compliance under their own policies.
6.3. Legal and safety sharing
Meridian may share information if required by law, needed to protect users, needed to investigate abuse, or needed to respond to child safety, fraud, security, or legal issues.
7. Security
Meridian uses reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect user data, including account authentication, backend access controls, database permissions, storage controls, and limited admin access.
7.1. No perfect security
No app or internet service can guarantee perfect security. You should use a secure email account and protect your device and sign-in access.
8. Data retention
Meridian keeps data for as long as needed to provide the app, maintain your account, operate your passport, support safety features, comply with law, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and keep necessary records.
8.1. Deleted content
When content or an account is deleted, Meridian aims to remove it from normal app use. Some limited records may remain or be anonymized for backups, security, moderation, legal compliance, or abuse prevention where permitted by law.
8.2. Reports and blocks
Reports, block records, and moderation records may be retained after content or accounts are changed so Meridian can investigate abuse, enforce safety decisions, prevent repeat harm, and comply with legal obligations.
8.3. Reset Country Data
You can reset visited countries, bucketlist marks, Passport Stamps, and related travel stats in Settings under Account, Reset Country Data. This removes that travel data from your account but does not delete your account, profile, followers, or other non-travel account data.
9. Account deletion
You can delete your account in Settings under Account, Delete Account. You can also contact support@meridianpassport.com for help with deletion requests.
Account deletion permanently deletes your Meridian account and app data from normal app use, including passport data, Passport Stamps, photos, follows, Nice activity, push tokens, and feedback submissions. Reports you submitted are deleted. Reports about your account or stamps may be anonymized rather than deleted so Meridian can maintain safety records.
Meridian may need to keep or anonymize limited data where required for safety, security, legal compliance, unresolved reports, fraud prevention, or abuse prevention.
10. Your choices
You can edit your profile, change passport visibility, delete or edit content where the app allows it, block users when social features are available, submit reports, reset country data, and request account or data deletion.
10.1. Consent and permissions
Where the app asks for consent or device permission, including photo library or notification permission, you can choose whether to allow it. You can also change device permissions through your device settings.
10.2. Photos
If Meridian asks for photo access, it is used only so you can choose and upload photos from your photo library to your Passport Stamps, passport avatar, or passport features. Meridian does not use camera or microphone access. You can manage photo permissions in your device settings.
10.3. Notifications
If Meridian asks for notification permission, it is used to send app notifications about follows, Nice activity, and tags. You can manage notification permissions in your device settings.
11. Children
Meridian is for users aged 16 and over. Meridian does not knowingly allow users under 16 to create accounts. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this age requirement.
12. International use
Meridian is operated from Denmark and may process data using service providers that store or process data in other countries. When this happens, Meridian aims to use appropriate protections required by applicable law.
13. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing of your personal data, request portability where applicable, and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
You can use many of these choices directly in the app, including editing profile data, changing passport visibility, deleting content, resetting country data, and deleting your account. You can also contact support@meridianpassport.com for help.
If you are in the EU or EEA and believe Meridian has not handled your data correctly, you may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Denmark, the supervisory authority is Datatilsynet.
14. Changes to this Privacy Policy
Meridian may update this Privacy Policy when the app, data use, providers, legal requirements, or safety systems change. If changes are material, Meridian will notify you in the app before or when the updated Privacy Policy takes effect.
15. Contact
Questions, privacy requests, deletion requests, and safety concerns can be sent to support@meridianpassport.com.
